Chatwing AI is a browser extension that helps users generate, translate, and improve replies in web conversations.

What data the extension processes

On known chat sites and sites where the panel was opened before, the extension may automatically observe visible conversations and store available history locally in Chrome before the panel is opened again. On other sites this begins after activation. AI requests follow a user action and require consent in Settings:

How the data is used

Replies may include up to 12,000 characters around the selected message in the current chat. Public-room context may contain other speakers and tips; this block is not stored in the selected member's personal memory. Profile capture sends extracted profile-page text to AI for a compact summary.

The data is used only to provide Chatwing AI features: generate suggested replies, translate selected text, improve text, remember user preferences, verify license access, and connect to the AI provider selected by the user.

AI providers

When OpenRouter is selected, chosen text, instructions and context pass through the Chatwing server to OpenRouter and its selected model provider.

When semantic memory is enabled, message text is also sent to OpenRouter Embeddings for similarity search. Semantic memory can be turned off in Settings.

API keys

Personal API keys are encrypted on the Chatwing server and are not delivered to clients. The server checks the license, device and subscription before requests. Semantic-memory requests also pass through Chatwing. Legacy keys may remain in Chrome storage, but the new version does not use them for AI.

License and Telegram connection

Chatwing AI may contact the Chatwing license server to verify a license key, device ID, or Telegram subscription status. The license server is used only for access control and subscription verification.

Data sharing

Chatwing AI does not sell user data. Data is shared only when necessary to provide the extension's single purpose: with the AI provider selected by the user, with the Chatwing license server for access verification, or when required by law or needed to protect against abuse or security threats.

Local storage

Chatwing AI stores settings, prompts, provider configuration, license state, conversation history, contact summaries, and spending logs in local Chrome storage. The vector index is stored in local IndexedDB. Users can remove this data by uninstalling the extension or clearing its storage.

On supported and previously activated sites, local collection of available history may begin when the page opens. Text is sent to an external AI provider when AI features are used, subject to consent and semantic-memory settings.

Limited use statement

Chatwing AI uses user data to draft, translate, and improve replies in web conversations and to verify access. User data is not sold or used for advertising.
